With a rational use of water, the Isle of Youth will not have difficulties in the coming months, since its reservoirs accumulate 74.7 percent of its total filling volume.
Raúl Arcaya, head of the Hydraulic Utilization unit in that territory, said that, although the rainfall from Tropical Storm Laura was not significant, the reservoirs managed to receive almost two cubic hectometres of water.
In the Special Municipality, almost all of the reservoirs are at one hundred percent of their total capacity, and they relieve Briones Montoto, Cristal, Enlace and Vietnam, where fishing or bathing in spillways is prohibited, to avoid accidents.
Thanks to the hydraulic will, the Isle of Youth has a water storage capacity of 229 million 600 thousand cubic meters, for agriculture and other purposes.
