Workers of the Ciegoplast Company, from Ciego de Ávila, continue to produce high-density polyethylene pipes so as not to affect the hydraulic program in Cuba, but without ceasing to comply with the hygienic-sanitary measures established in the presence of COVID-19.

Arael Otero Sutil, main production specialist in the entity, explained to the ACN that in order to avoid contagions due to the increase in positive cases with the dangerous disease in the capital city and not risk 100 percent of the workforce, they decided to paralyze the lines of making connections by thermofusion, injection and extrusion.

In warehouses we have sufficient levels of these accessories, so we give priority to pipes of different diameters and pressures requested this year for the main works that are carried out in various provinces, said Otero Sutil.

The working day is divided into four work shifts and, for example, 670 tons of raw material were processed in September, of which 22 kilometers of tubes were obtained, he added.

He emphasized that they comply with the health provisions, including the mandatory use of the nasobusco and the maintenance of footsteps in adequate hygienic conditions and moistened in 0.5 percent hypochlorite at the entrance to common areas.

In Ciegoplast they also apply teleworking in jobs that allow it, with the aim that no worker contracts the disease, their wages are not affected and continue contributing to the economy, concluded Otero Sutil.

The contribution of this company, the first of the three of its kind operating in the country, has been essential in the sequence of the hydraulic program in Cuba, so far in 2020, a very difficult year for the national economy.

Among the works benefited from the Avilanian pipeline productions are the El Gato supply source, located in the Madruga municipality, in Mayabeque, which supplies water to approximately 20 percent of the population of Havana, especially the one that resides to the east. from the city.

Likewise, the Mariel Special Development Zone, in Artemisa, was favored with conduits and connections, destined to become the main entry and exit door for Cuban foreign trade.

The raw material processing plan for the year is 4,860 tons, of which 4,322 tons have already been used to obtain 125.3 kilometers of tubes.
