The dam in the Cienfuegos municipality of Abreus, with a capacity for 50 million cubic meters of water, is currently 77 percent full. Without being the largest artificial aquarium in the province of Cienfuegos, it contributes forty percent of the water to the city of Cienfuegos, for industrial and population consumption, in addition to the Juraguá production center.

The Damují dam, built in the 80s of the last century and included within the program of the hydraulic will promoted by Fidel, has in its favor a permanent surface runoff basin, hence, without being much the rainfall this year has situation favorable.

Severino Alfonso Hernández, director of the Abreu Hydraulic complex, states that the workers of the complex are aware of the responsibility they have towards the supply of water to the population and agriculture for food production, with the potential of water they have, not yet raining more in the remainder of the season they have water for their customers until next time, now we have to take care of the liquid and preserve it.

The Abreu hydraulic complex, in addition to the Damují dam, is made up of Galindo, Voladora and El Salto. The latter with a capacity for 9.5 million cubic meters of water. When it discharges it does so towards the Damují dam, that is the importance of climatic studies to build the dams.
